We have been doing some great baking as part of our sensory group work - check out what's been going on in our sensory activities page if you haven't already seen it! So now it's time to tell you all about it! We made some SAVAGE rice krispie cakes (can't tell you the secret ingredient!) and we wanted to show you exactly how we did it. During our art lesson we used brown crepe paper to make small balls to resemble the chocolate rice krispies and glued them onto our bun cases. For Maths and history we sequenced how we made our cakes and for English, we outlined the steps involved in the process. We love to see our work on display. It's a pity the rest of our school can't see it as we are so proud of our learning.

Take a look at some of the fabulous work we have been doing lately. Maths (time, sets, counting and colour), history (sequencing) and English (writing and spellings). We read the story of 'Pete the Cat'. Pete had lovely new white shoes and over the course of the story they changed colour! We sequenced the different colour changes and explained the reasons why his shoes changed from white to red to blue to brown and back to white again. We have been learning about sets and matching colours. We also have been working on our fine motor skills. Every morning we have the pleasure of G coming into our class for about 15 minutes before he starts his school day in 2nd class. He loves the time he gets to spend with us, catching up on what's been happening, updating our calendar/weather chart and enjoying some time in our Central Activity Space. It's also so nice for Marie, Romy, Elizabeth and I to get to see him and spend some time with him!
We got a new machine to help some of the children learn how to pedal. G gave it a test run for us! Very important life skills going on here...... walking safely to a destination, crossing roads, looking out for cars and traffic, following instructions, social distancing inside, steering a trolley, reading items from a list, identifying different groceries, placing items to be checked out, packing bags and carrying shopping back to school. Sure you'd be wrecked after it!
Last week, this fella couldn't balance on a bike....... look at him go now! I sent out an email to our staff asking for any spare bikes, scooters, skateboards etc and look what I got back! Massive thanks to all who donated their stuff. We will be flat out learning how to balance, pedal, steer and cycle with the fabulous stuff we were given.
I nominated one of my little dudes for the Golden Book this week. This month our value is kindness. I don't think I need to explain further! Melts my heart! We don't think we'll get many more days of sunshine for the next few months..... so we said 'let's eat ice cream while the sun shines'! We took a walk down the new road which leads to Circle K. We found a safe place to sit, then Romy took our orders and delivered the goodies while we just basked in the rays! Lots of learning points to be had on our trip.... heating and cooling(science), road safety(SPHE),cleaning up after ourselves(geography-environmental awareness) and much more. Most importantly though..... shooting the breeze with your pals!
We are getting used to not being all together in the P.E hall for whole school assemblies. A new norm so to speak! Kinda tough to fit us all in on screen with social distancing!
